Covalence Global x Ice-Breaker's Youth Climate Change Conference
Covalence Global x Ice Breaker will be hosting a 3-day webinar on August 12, 13, and 14 from 11:00 am EST - 1:00 pm EST. This series is completely youth led and encourages participants and presenters to meet the climate change challenges of their time.
We are hosting participants who are passionate about climate change and willing to learn more. There will be a range of activities, collaborative discussions, and networking opportunities involved.
We are also featuring presenters who are passionate about climate change and its relation to justice, policy, economics, science/technology, etc. Presentations will range 15-20 minutes, followed by discussion in small breakout rooms.
Meet Our Spotlight Speakers
"Mehak Arora is a rising senior in high school from Coppell, Texas with an ardor for environmental conservation and advocacy. As co-president of her school's Eco-Club, Mehak leads monthly water quality tests reporting to city officials, aids in organizing volunteer cleanups, and facilitates funding projects for ecological maintenance. Certified by the Texas Stream Team and member of the Gulf of Mexico Youth Advisory Congress, ensuring the health of local water sources drives her passion for aquatic research and management. Mehak is currently interning with the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center and conducting research on the phytoremediation process to remove heavy metals from municipal water sources. To accentuate ecological education, Mehak is working to establish an aquatic biochemistry course for elementary through high schoolers and fuel the next generation of environmental advocates. In her free time, you can find Mehak hiking and exploring her favorite places, National Parks!
"Selma Bichbich is a social and climate youth activist who has taken part in many programs and organizations seeking change and serving the SDGs by speaking out for youth and justice. She is an SDSN fellow, the contact point of the Human Rights Working Group at YOUNGO, GST Communication at SDG7 Youth Consistency. A board member and co-founder of the MENA Youth Network, the founder of the Together for Blue & Green organization, and a Max Thabiso Edkins Global Climate Ambassador. The delegate of Algeria at the PreCop26 Youth4Climate Summit, an active member of UNEPMGCY, she is also the organizer of the first edition of the MENA Youth Environmental Assembly. In addition to being a member of the MENA Coalition on Youth, Peace, and Security."
"Amanda Sun (She/Her) studies computer science and environment at Dartmouth College. Her experience ranges from scaling environmental movements, working as a stagaire at a sustainable baking institute in Aix-en-Provence, and researching lead contamination in America's poorest zip codes. She co-founded and directs Green2Go, a youth-run nonprofit accelerating the transition to a zero-waste society with 20+ university chapters to mitigate 10M+ single-use plastics by the end of 2022 with reusable alternatives."
"Iris Zhan (they/them) is a Chinese American climate activist from Columbia, MD, USA. They have been a climate activist since 2018. They are known for co-founding Fridays For Future Digital and founding Sunrise Movement Howard County in 2019. Over the years they have specialized in building connections in the movement, helping activists find their place, and lead digital campaign teams. Currently they focus on leading FFF Digital and support local initiatives when possible."
